Allan Wallace - Hobbies - Target Shooting - Umarex MP5K-PDW
My Umarex MP5K-PDW is for sale at Umarex Boys' Club Forum.
The Umarex MP5K-PDW is a .177 calibre semi-automatic co2 powered steel-bb "air gun". Marketed by Umarex under license from Heckler & Koch
I have been wondering whether converting the Umarex MP5 to shoot pellets, and fitting a rifled barrel to it would be beneficial for accuracy.
There are some arguments that it would be illegal to do so, as it is sold as a "semi-automatic", and in the UK Section 5 of the firearms act states that semi-auto's are only permitted in .22 rimfire
unless they are smooth-bore (which the Umarex MP5K-PDW is).
I wonder about this, because with the majority of legally available air and co2 pistols, they typically all have rifled barrels, and will shoot pellets as fast as you can pull the trigger.
Incidentally, the way those pistols work is that pulling the trigger indexes the magazine, then releases the gas - firing the pellet - as the trigger approaches the limit of it's action.
With the umarex MP5K-PDW, as you start squeezing the trigger, the entire, internal barrel of the rifle moves forward, allowing a BB to pop up from the magazine, then as the trigger approaches
the limit of it's action the barrel pops back into place and the co2 is released, firing the pellet, and simulating "blow back".
As far as i can tell, this is effectively exactly the same. The MP5 isn't self-loading..... More information will follow shortly, once i've sorted out the photos.
